The Royal Stuarts are Hysterical History. They use humor to understand history.
Their energy, enthusiasm and experience is unique, bringing history to life in a memorable
experience.
What other people are saying about Royal Stuarts They don't just tell stories from history, they get the audience living it. They are entertainers
of the first degree, with shows that are entertaining and educational for people from all walks of
life.
Imagine a show so different, an approach so fresh, a concept so exciting, that you will find
yourself...
In August of '95, and again in '96, the Royal Stuarts performed
at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world's largest performing arts festival.
Reviews include:
"I loved that...you'll love it, too."- The Sunday Times, Edinburgh
"the group has a strong commitment to historical accuracy. This is admired."
The Royal Stuart's shows have become so popular they often have
audience lined up and waiting for the next performance to begin. It is not unusual for event
sponsors to request Command Performances in order to give competitors and event
volunteers a chance to see these exciting performers.
This is because the Royal Stuarts get the audience involved, let
them experience the history (and frivolity) first hand. The shows are
exciting. The audience sits spell bound listening to stories about
Bonny Prince Charlie and his daring escape to the Isle of Skye
or how the dynasty all began (Steward Made King).
The Royal Stuarts perform a variety staged skits and stories highlighting the Stuart
Monarchs. Each story brings to light aspects or attitudes of Scottish history often
hidden in the history books.
Original tales taken from over 350 years of Scottish history include:
These stories help bring to life the people beneath the crown.
In addition to the historical pieces, the Royal Stuart repertoire includes a host of ever popular
folk tales such as The Wee, Wee Mannie and the Big,
Big Coo or Gudeman &
Gudewife. These folk tales and myths of Scotland are told in a lighthearted,
comedic manner and illuminate the Scottish attitudes, character and culture as only folk tales can.
Royal Stuart performances often include audience participation, making learning an active
and enjoyable experience. The dynamic shows inspire audiences to learn more about Scottish
culture and heritage. So, don't be surprised if you're watching one of their shows and you find
yourself playing a king or a theif (or even a Coo).
