We, the Clan Donald people of Canada, have been granted a Charter by Lord Macdonald of Macdonald representing the Council of the High Chiefs of Clan Donald. The purpose of the Charter was to form a Clan Donald Society in Canada in order to carry out activities essential for
the preservation of the Clan's Heritage and Culture.
What is Clan Donald Canada?
Clan Donald Canada exists to help our members celebrate our common heritage and the customs and traditions of our ancestors, and to encourage the accomplishments of ourselves and our children.
We seek to provide motivation and opportuntity for those in Canada of Donald blood to share in this heritage through social activities, communications, genealogical research, and general cameraderie and kinship. We also encourage the speaking of the Gaelic language, the playing of the bagpipes, the performing of Highland dances, and the wearing of Highland costume.
A National Newsletter is published twice yearly. Depending on where you live, general information sessions, Robbie Burns dinners, clan picnics and ceilidhs, and attendance at Highland Games provide opportunities for Clan Donald members to enjoy each other’s company, and to learn more about their Donald heritage.
The annual membership fee of $20.00 includes spouse and all children under 18. Life memberships are available for a one-time fee of $300.
For more information and/or application for membership, contact Acting High Commissioner Ida MacDonald: ilmacdonald@ns.sympatico.ca
Greetings from our Chiefs
May 2000
It gives me the greatest pleasure to have this opportunity of
sending my warmest wishes to Clan Donald members in Canada.
As we are now in
a new Century and Millennium, it is an opportune time to look forward with pride
to the continuing role
of our great clan. Although immense distances separate
us, modern travel ensures that these barriers can be crossed with relative ease.
However, it really is modern technology that can be utilized to best effect and
instant communication can be all too readily effected. It is still vitally
important for the majority of those of Highland descent to be able to learn
about and identify the home-land of their ancestors, and modern information
technology has made this much more possible.
I am deeply proud to be Chief of
Clan Donald during this period in our history, and the true feelings of clanship
and all that that entails has certainly not diminished over the years.
With my kindest regards to you all.
Macdonald.
Greetings to all fellow clansmen throughout Canada. Having recently inherited my title of 23rd Chief of Glengarry following the sad death of my father in June last year, I am most impressed by the loyalty and commitment of fellow Clan members throughout the globe. As you may know, I have close links with Canada through a sister in Halifax, NS, and a brother in Whitehorse Y.T.; and I look forward to extending those links by getting to know as many Canadian Clan members as possible.
With best wishes to all,
Ranald MacDonell of Glengarry.
Annual membership fee $20.00 includes spouse and all children under 18, or $300.00 for Life Membership.
