The Ghosts of Scotland

The topic of ghosts in Scotland has become popular enough that several books have been written on the subject. The first is Haunted Scotland by Norman Adams. In addition to a thorough collection of many traditional ghost stories, Haunted Scotland contains several unusual tales.

Some of the less conventional tales include those of ghosts in wartime airfields, factories, an oil rig in the North Sea, and (perhaps strangest of all) the Safeway supermarket in the city of Elgin. Many of those who've read Haunted Scotland praise it for being an entertaining read, instead of just a plain listing of Scottish ghosts.

Adams has also written a second book, entitled Haunted Valley, Ghost Stories, Mysteries and Legends of Royal Deeside which is an additional compilation of Scottish ghost stories.

The second such book is Scottish Ghost Stories by James Robertson covers many contemporary stories. Among them are the apparitions of several murder victims, a phantom truck, the ghost of an unidentified baby (complete with cot), and the ghosts of several horses believed to have belonged to the ever-popular Mary Queen of Scots.

There are also many other books on Scottish Hauntings, covering just about every ghost story imaginable. Among them are Scottish Ghosts by Dane Love, Ghosts, Spirits, and Specters of Scotland by Francis Thompson, Ghosts, Massacres and Horror Stories of Scotland's Castles by Margaret Campbell, and Tales from Scottish Lairds. Combined, there is certainly enough material in all these books to keep even the most insatiable reader and enthusiast busy for quite some time.
